Sun Wukong
Play-by: Michael Jones/Sun Wukong
Age: 18
Species: Golden Monkey Faunus
Physical Description:
Sun Wukong is a young man, with a lightly tanned complexion, and a considerably musculature. Standing at a tall 5'11", the faunus could easily pass for human if not for the pride he holds in his heritage. Specifically, Sun's heritage is a golden-furred tail, which is reminiscent to that of a monkey's. A short mop of spiky blond hair is typically worn unkempt by Wukong, only occasionally taking the time to run a comb through his short locks. Besides his heritage, a trait that many remember when describing Sun can be summarized with a single word, "abs". It's clear that the young man has put in considerable work into toning his abdomen, and has been known to take great pride in them.
Despite his regal upbringing, Sun often wears clothes that allow him to feel free and unconstrained. A white jacket, with nothing underneath, and the buttons unclasped is probably the most notorious of his garb, though Wukong often insists that if he didn't, his abs wouldn't be shared with the world. In addition, Sun usually wear a pair of jeans, legs rolled up to the knees, effectively allowing them to act as shorts. Just visible under the rim of his rolls are wrapped bandages, which are assumed to wind around his upper shins, reaching at least somewhat past his knees, serving in a somewhat functional capacity to prevent training and exertion injuries. Sun has a pair of sneakers that he wears, a bright yellow pair, with black accents to serve as a sort of contrast to the lighter color. Also notable are his red and black gauntlets, clearly designed for martial arts, and giving the faunus a somewhat more "fightery" look.
Around his neck Sun wears a golden pendant that serves a currently unknown, to others, purpose. When asked about it, he simply brushes off the question and changes the subject, often with a great degree of success.
Personality:
Sun Wukong is a free spirit. Not caring for being confined in anyway, not even by his articles of clothing, Wukong moves around as he sees fit, and not defined by how others believe he should. From things such as petty theft, to actively stowing away on boats, there isn't much that Sun wouldn't do for a laugh, and more often than not, if you tell him to not do something, it simply compels the monkey to have a stronger desire to do aforementioned something. The faunus is nice enough, never going out of his way to be a jerk, though still prone to bursts of unintentionally-hurtful sarcasm from time to time. As expected, Sun enjoys a good joke, or wonton chaos, and about everything in-between. His best friends describe the boy with words such as "cheesy" "difficult" "nuts" "hyper" and "goofy".
Wukong doesn't have much interest for politics, though he is politically aware, knowing about White Fang, and even having a negative opinion of their current incarnation. But so far as his interests extend, Wukong really cares about a narrow category of things. Becoming a Huntsman has been the boy's dream for years, even from his earliest days when he and Zhen would be told the stories of the Hunstmen's and Huntresses's exploits, and as a result has spent a good portion of his life training, intent on making this dream a reality. Sun's always been fascinated by martial arts, considering that they are a rather common practice in Pan which has decidedly oriental influences, and constantly practices his own, as well as taking time to observe new or impressive practices. This extends beyond not only standard martial practices, but weapon-based disciplines too. In fact, the best way to catch this faunus's interest is to make a display of flair in combat. But ultimately, Sun's favourite thing in the world are weapon, often reading catalogues and looking over schematics from known experts, even making his own complex twin-set Ruyi Bang and Jingu Bang. Unusual weapons, or at least uncommon ones to Pan, often quickly draw his attention.
Sun is fairly sensitive as far as his tail is concerned, rarely letting others touch it, and responding extremely when one attempts to make unwanted contact. Due to an early experience in which he learned the origin of meat that's served as food, strongly preferring fruit and vegetables, as the even the scent of cooked flesh will make the faunus sick to his stomach, and it quickly becomes a rather sickening spectacle. Wukong is far from studious, and struggles academically as a result. If not for the help from his best friend Neptune, the faunus would likely have not passed any non-practical classes the last two years in Advanced Combat Training.
Due to his true identity being a private affair, even in his land of origin, some people can see Sun as rather secretive, rarely answering direct questions about his early life, prior to actually attending school. This is thanks in part to the fact that Wukong is expressly forbidden from speaking about his origins by the royal code in Pan. That, and before being sent into combat schools, the tragedy that the faunus suffered has made him reluctant in speaking about any of it.
Gear:
Ruyi Bang and Jingu Bang are a pair of crimson nunchucks, which both serve as small-barrelled shot-guns on each side of the chains which connect them. With a minimized recoil, the weapons can deal respectable damage at close-range, without jostling Sun violently in combat. The range can be extended by him activating the extension-mechanism in each weapon. All barrels are designed to connect, triggering a unique mechanism within the pair that collapses them into a short staff, but immediately extends into a more standard-length bo staff. In staff-mode, Sun is capable of stronger, though slower, strikes while able to discharge more power in each round.
Semblance:
Sun is able to create up to three doppelgangers of himself, each one as strong, quick, and wily as the original. However, there are several limitations imposed upon this ability. Beyond the fact that three is his absolute maximum, and that it is a rather large tax upon his aura to use this power, each doppelganger is somehow disabled. One is always mute, one is always deaf, and the third is always blind. This semblance can be countered by taking advantage of the poor communicability between them.
History: Head-Canon Heavy
Sun Wukong was born of the ruling family in Vacuo. His mother and father hailed as “The Monkey King” and “The Monkey Queen” of a small, region, on the continent of Vacuo which was at one point was inhabited solely by Grimm, thus resulting in the boy’s entire early life being focused on learning skills which were deemed useful and necessary for the prince. Along with his elder brother, the two learned the ancient stories of The Hunters, and thus honed their fighting and dust skills constantly.
Sun proved to be something of a prodigy quickly, taking little effort, and training only for the sake of becoming better. His brother, was not so gifted, but far more competitive, generating tension for the first time between the two. Inseparable before, it seemed as if their battles were growing far more heated, to the point of either almost getting themselves killed on occasion.
One fateful day, an incident with red dust caused a lethal explosion, Sun taking poor care of how he filled the barrels of his gear, it would seem, that the boy was doomed. His brother, however, had managed to notice this during their training, and managed to rescue the boy with little relative injury, though the burns would prove fatal for him, and leave a deep scar on Sun’s back. In the following years Sun wouldn’t speak to his mother or father directly in light of the incident again.
Enrolling for Hunter training immediately after, he’s now a second year at [school to be named] and practices with his best friends in Team SSSN, though the team itself is not sanctioned by any one school due to none being a student at the same academy, as Sun had actually traveled and made friends with prospect teammates before the festival. In light of his brother’s death half a decade prior, Sun continues to perform very stringent and frequent maintenance on his new weapons.
During his time at the school, and competing in the Mistral regional tournament every year, Sun became friends with Pyrrha Nikos. He attempted to “recruit” her to his team, but failed to do so as she had intents of attending Beacon.
Wukong doesn’t relish the idea of returning to his home to some day take up his birth-given position, having told his best friend Neptune on many occasions he’d rather die than become king. This stems from feelings of unworthiness, and guilt over his brother the original heir.
